Kate Hindson practices from our North Adelaide rooms, Wednesday (afternoon and evenings), and from 9-5 on Thursdays and Fridays.

Kate is a General Psychologist who has spent the last 10 years working with young people and their families in Community Mental Health and NGO sectors in Victoria and South Australia. She has been fortunate to be able to provide mental health support to young people experiencing a range of difficulties from severe and complex mental health needs, through to adjustment difficulties.

She is experienced in supporting clients who have had negative experiences seeking mental health support in the past, and on creating a positive therapeutic experience so that this pattern doesn’t continue.

Kate understands that seeking out psychological assistance can sometimes be an unfamiliar and anxiety provoking step for some people and that it takes a lot of courage to ask for help. She is passionate about drawing on each person’s existing skills and individual strengths and empowering them to lead their own recovery.

Whether you’ve struggled with your mental health for many years, or your mental health has started to deteriorate recently, Kate will take the time to ensure she understands what you’re needing from therapy, to help get you back to feeling like yourself. Kate supports her clients to identify and adjust unhelpful thoughts and life patterns that are perpetuating their struggles with their mental health.

Kate’s calm and personable approach focuses not just on the symptoms her clients are experiencing but also on the impact these can have on their everyday lives (such as school, work and relationships). She has a gentle and direct style that seeks to ensure that people feel clear about
what they want out of therapy. She is also passionate about supporting her clients in their recovery and takes great pride in seeing her clients achieve their goals.

Kate places a strong emphasis on ensuring her clients feel safe, to ensure that therapy is most effective. She understands that each person’s needs are unique and takes a flexible approach with each person’s therapy.

Her experiences have taught her that it is important to understand people’s past experiences of seeking help and their therapy expectations before collaboratively selecting the best approach to take. She focuses on supporting clients to build their independence to navigate
difficult situations and developing skills to last a life time.

Kate aims to keep sessions light hearted while still being able to tackle the difficult issues.

To this end, Kate draws on a range of evidence-based frameworks to best meet the needs of her clients. She is skilled in delivering:

  • And she incorporates elements of Schema Therapy into her practice

Kate places a strong emphasis on helping each individual make sense of what has led to their distress, and on building their resilience.

In her spare time, Kate enjoys pursuing her creative interests, baking and adding to her indoor plant collection.
