Therapeutic Approach
I have worked for many years in the public sector caring for children, adolescents, adults and their families presenting with a wide range of emotional and behaviours issues as well as diagnosed illness and high risk and self-harming behaviours.
I have a nursing background and have worked in mental health since 1987. Much of my clinical experience has predominantly been in child and adolescent mental health where I have been fortunate to acquire additional qualifications and knowledge in a number of treatment approaches. These include Narrative therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Solution Focussed Therapy, Integrated Family Therapy, Mindfulness techniques, etc.
I recently worked for 8 years adult mental health system in senior clinical roles and have developed a good understanding of the services available, contemporary treatment and practice. I am able to provide appropriate therapy and support for a range of presentations effecting adults and their families.
I am a transparent clinician and seek to work in partnership with you and your family to facilitate positive change in a meaningful way. I often work with individuals but where possible I include family members as part of therapy. This helps to better understand the problem and engage with available supports. Liaison with schools and other agencies can also be part of working with the various systems that impact on the client ‘s life. Family therapy-based approaches are best tried when the problem is affecting or involving other people we love and there is a commitment to work together to make things better.
