Dr. Marina Ishak practices exclusively via Telehealth and is available on Fridays from 9am – 1pm.

Marina is accepting new clients.

Hello, I’m Marina. I’ve been often told that my most valuable qualities are my natural warmth and ability to foster an environment where people feel comfortable embracing their true selves.

In our first few sessions my aim is to provide you with the space to explore your concerns with curiosity and safety whilst I listen and attune to your unique situation. It’s important to me that you feel seen and heard and that you don’t feel like you are doing it alone. We will also discuss the change you are seeking and what matters most to you.

Together we will develop a shared awareness and understanding of the factors that maintain the challenges you are facing. This may also involve making connections between the present issues and childhood origins.

With 15 years of experience working with adults with diverse backgrounds and histories, I am skilful at tailoring therapy to your individual needs. I use a combination of practical and experiential strategies, drawing from evidence-based treatments, including Schema Therapy, Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I value transparency and I will provide you a rationale for the strategies that we implement.

Whilst working with me, we are likely to evaluate the function of your thoughts and behaviours and how they may (or may not) serve you in overcoming challenges and creating a life that is meaningful to you. Together we will empower you to break unhealthy patterns, encourage self-compassion and healthy self-talk, and nurture new approaches to create long-lasting change.

I’m committed to mutual and authentic openness and when therapeutically appropriate, you can count on me to be compassionately straightforward, and I believe I can count on you to do the same.

I continue to be grateful for my work, and its privilege, which allows me to hear people’s stories, understand and help them. I look forward to working with you.

I consult exclusively via telehealth and am currently offering appointments on Fridays from 9am – 1pm.

Please note Dr Marina does not provide services for people with NDIS funding, Workcover or other third-party insurance.

Special Areas of Interest

Early in my career, I worked as part of the team at Bankstown Anxiety Clinic. Across my 15 years of practise, I have cultivated extensive experience in the assessment and effective treatment of acute, chronic and complex Anxiety Disorders and related challenges.

  • Social Anxiety
  • Generalised Anxiety and Worry
  • Panic Disorder
  • Agoraphobia
  • Specific Phobias
  • Health Anxiety.
  • Self-esteem
  • Perfectionism
  • Procrastination and Behavioural Avoidance
  • Depression

Another interest I have developed is working with individuals who find themselves repeating unhealthy interpersonal patterns that often lead to distress, conflict and/or dissatisfaction in relationships (romantic relationships, friendships, family and/or colleagues). These patterns likely stem from early life experiences and may become ingrained over time.

Schema therapy is an approach that integrates elements of cognitive-behaviour therapy, attachment theory, gestalt therapy and psychodynamic concepts. This approach aims to identify and change unhealthy patterns by addressing their underlying origins and related core beliefs, building self-awareness and compassion, whilst fostering healthier ways of relating to oneself and others. By breaking free from these unhealthy patterns and developing more fulfilling connections, individuals experience greater emotional wellbeing.
