Hello my name is  Jon Morton I have worked as a Mental Health Occupational Therapist for the last 19 years  focussing predominately on supporting children, adolescence and families to review their needs holistically and identify areas  of development that are important and motivating to work on.
I have focussed much of my therapy working with many families and clients who are neurodivergent to explore their mental health skills, a range of life skills and functional areas to help clients take steps that are more in-line with their needs and life goals.
I bring a non-judgemental, practical approach to therapy where families and clients co-design goals focussed on building and growing strengths and working on weaknesses through knowledge development and practical application.

Therapeutic Approach

Therapeutic approaches used:
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Behavioural activation
  • relaxation training skills development
  • Sensory profiling and personalised sensory diets (needs based scheduling)
  • Social skills training
  • Psychosocial skills training and development of an authentic identity
  • Applied mindfulness

Qualifications and Memberships

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy)
  • General Occupational Therapy registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia
  • Registered provider with Medicare under the Better Access to Mental Health Scheme
  • Mental Health Endorsed Practitioner with Occupational Therapy Australia

Special Areas of Interest

  • Best practice frameworks for Neurodivergent families.
  • Matching clients’ needs assessment with goals and actions that are targeted and measurable ongoing.
  • I completed one year of university studies along with a placement in an Indigenous Australian community. I have a passion for everything about Indigenous Australian culture especially around exploring how we can build spiritual and wellbeing practices within a westernised lifestyle.
  • Sensory diets or lifestyle planning and helping clients, families explore needs and how they can meet needs in their practical life context.
  • Dynamic profiling and developing digital needs profiles for children to help them within school and community settings so that their uniqueness isn’t lost.
  • Identity and exploring and building authentic identities (exploring strengths, interests, values/beliefs) and how we can build this into our life.
  • Targeted interventions in school especially around using heart rate monitors (Biofeedback) and helping children clients learn how they can control their heart rates and stay ‘cool under pressure’. Often used in graded exposure within the classroom but also any social environment that is causing anxiety graded exposure has good outcomes.
  • Finally, the use of AI and supporting clients holistically has incredible potential, collecting data on a client and allowing algorithms to learn about each client will yield faster insights and complements therapeutic work completed in session.
